The Workbook supports and documents the planning process with the following flow:

Situation Analysis

The macro environment is analyzed using PEST analysis. The Political, Economic, Social and Technology factors are identified and documented
Based on each of the PEST factors a number of potential strategies are identified; e.g. what are the appropriate strategies to consider based on your assessment of the particular political factors that you identified as relevant.
When identifying potential strategies the workbook facilitates potential strategies that are deemed to be aggressive or offensive and strategies that are deemed to be conservative or defensive.
Having completed the process for the macro environment using PEST analysis a similar exercise is undertaken for the Enterprise environment using SWOT analysis.
The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats are identified and documented.
Based on each set of SWOT components a number of potential strategies are identified; e.g. what are the appropriate strategies to consider based on your assessment of the particular Threats that you identified as relevant.
When identifying potential strategies the workbook facilitates potential strategies are deemed to be aggressive or offensive and strategies that are deemed to be conservative or defensive.

Assessing Strategic Options

An outcome from the completed Situation Analysis is a range of strategic options that take account of the macro and enterprise environments.
One or more strategies should be chosen from the strategies identified during the PEST and SWOT analysis or alternatively appropriate composite strategies should be developed.

Strategy Implementation

The workbook is used to clarify and document a concise Description of the selected strategy and the associated Specific Strategy Objective.
When deploying a strategy some factors arise which inhibit implementation, while other factors act as enablers.
Prior to identifying specific strategy execution action items it is useful to identify and document potential inhibitors and enablers.
The workbook and process supports this action.
Clarity around the Specific Strategy Objective and the Inhibitors and Enablers identified enables you to identify and document the Strategy Execution Action Items to be implemented.
The Key Performance Metric and Targets for 30, 60, 90 days and 6 and 12 months are documented.
The Executive responsible for implementation and the achievement of the metrics is recorded.
This process is repeated for all the Strategies to be implemented.

Strategy Implementation Monitoring and Updating

Once the strategy and implementation plan is developed and approved implementation will commence.  It is a basic and important management requirement that the implementation plan performance be regularly reviewed and modified as appropriate.
The workbook becomes the core and mainstay of that process. Key milestones and KPIs are clearly set out against which to measure implementation.  A key executive is documented as having ultimate responsibility for each strategy and can be held accountable.
The workbook can be edited, as appropriate, resulting from the implementation process.
